Project description

Brite-Solar (www.britesolar.com) will develop and demonstrate the technology function that allows the mass production of solar panels, which are translucent and can be used as windows in residential-office buildings and greenhouses. The solar panels may produce energy by direct or diffuse sunlight but also with artificial light. This technology, adapted to conditions of mass production, considered cutting edge technology with significant potential for commercial exploitation, since it can be produced at competitive costs. The project is just the development of the proposed new technology (which does not exist on the market today) at a competitive cost. In particular the proposed project refers to the construction of solid state dye or perovskite solar cells based on complex organic/ inorganic nanostructured materials, which, in their majority, are deposited by inkjet printable methods at ambient conditions. The purpose of Brite-Solar is to achieve semitransparent solar cells with high transparency in the visible region of light (higher than 60%) and direct transferring to the production line to achieve advantage of limited production costs. For the success of the project Brite-Solar will work with strategic partners such as Technological-Educational Institute of Western Greece for optimizing nanocomposite materials employed to the construction of solar panels and potential companies from abroad interested to the solar windows technology. Finally, the Brite-Solar has manifested interest in technology/ products from PV panel and greenhouses producers, who will be the direct customers.

Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece, Department of Electrical Engineering Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials Laboratory is a project partner.
