Modelway srl is a limited liability company. The company was founded in 2004 as a spin-off of Politecnico di Torino in order to make available to industrial world the innovative data-driven methods of modeling, virtual sensing and controls of complex systems in the Automotive, Aerospace, Energy&Environment and Mechatronics sectors, developed by Professor Mario Milanese and his team over the years. Modelway has developed proprietary softwares such as NOSEM® (NOnlinear SEt-membership Modeling), DVS® (Direct Virtual Sensors) and STC® (Self-Tuning Control) implementing these methods, and gained large experience in their use for solving challenging applications.
Main features of Modelway are its flexibility and innovative nature. These skills have allowed, over the years, to become a reference point for R&D and Innovation Engineering activities of our customers.
Since its establishment, Modelway has participated in funded research projects, both Europe (FP7) regional and national level, collaborating with the most important industrial and academic institutions.
The research activity in industrial innovation is one of main objectives of Modelway that annually produces scientific publications on top journals and is present at international conferences.

Relevant previous projects:

a. Participation to Comfortsense Project, co-funded by Regione Piemonte (http://www.craftinglab.it/comfortsense/). Comfortsense project links people needs to the environment around, correlating subjective variables and physical variables. All these variables are elaborated in an algorithm (DVS Comfort), developed using Modelway’s Direct Virtual Sensor technology, allow to have a comfort estimation in the environment considered. Thanks to DVS Comfort the main goal of the project has been accomplished, creating a new idea of sustainable comfort. This innovation is a step forward in reducing energy consumption allowing people to have a better life experience in the environments analyzed.

b. Participation to Biomethair Project, co-funded by Regione Piemonte (www.biomethair.it). The project aims to develop an engine with a very low environmental impact, both in terms of CO2 emission of both pollutants. This engine is powered by mixtures of methane and hydrogen, and is integrated with a system hybrid-electric propulsion. The role of Modelway is to develop a DVS to estimate in real time the methane-hydrogen composition, allowing engine control system to adapt the control parameter to maintain the engine emission, efficiency and performance. The DVS was implemented on engine control unit and is presently under test.

c. Partecipation to iDea Project, co-funded project by the Piedmont region through the European Regional Development Fund POR 2007-2013. The project aim to develop an innovative hybrid diesel vehicle for urban mobility. In this project Modelway developed an innovative nonlinear multivariable control for the air charging system of diesel engines.

d. Partecipation to Hypernano Project, co-funded project by the Piedmont region through the European Regional Development Fund POR 2007-2013. The project aim to develop high-power laser machines. Modelway developed an innovative NOSEM model for high-power laser actuators.

e. Parteciparion to KitVes Project, co-funded project by the European Union through the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7). The project aim was to develop an innovative naval propulsion system based on green energy generated from the high altitude winds. Modelway developed the modelling and the automatic controls for the high altitude wind energy generator.

f. Partecpation to KiteNav Project, co-funded project by the Piedmont region through the European Regional Development Fund POR 2007-2013. The project aim to develop a high-altitude power generation for naval propulsion in which Modelway developed the optimized naval propulsion system.
